The pros and cons of hiring a doula — by someone who did

It’s become very trendy: but is it worth it?

The word ‘doula’ first entered my consciousness in 2019. The Duchess of Sussex was pregnant with her first child, and amongst other non-traditional things (home birth, hypnobirthing and a vegan nursery), it was being reported that she had hired a doula – though it was never confirmed. Assuming it was a woo-woo ‘American’ thing, I paid little attention.
